Silent Protest in Cambodia

The Cambodian ruling party CPP has won a landslide election victory in 2018. But the polls are criticized to be a sham. Prime Minister Hun Sen, who has been in power for over 30 years, had effectively neutralized his opponents in advance. In media as well as in politics.

Opposing the regime in Cambodia is no longer about discussing different opinions, it is about showing how corruption works -which is widespread in the political system. Whoever dares to speak against the government, takes the risk of being arrested and put in jail. But a secret opposition is rising.

Broadcast on July 12th 2018 in “World in Progress” by Deutsche Welle.
